There is a popular quote that has stuck with me for a long time. It goes, “don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter twenty”.
When we look at people who are miles ahead in this same journey of life, we see them doing things that we are struggling with, and it seems so easy for them. But, we are unaware of the struggles they passed through behind the scenes to get to where they are. We are only on the look out for an easy way to get to our destination faster. We think that since we want something, it should happen immediately. Most of us are no longer patient enough to go through the life-changing experiences and processes in our journey.
Comparing your journey to someone else’s will make you doubt yourself and belittle your achievements. You might begin to doubt or even forget the main reason why you started out in the first place. If care is not taken, you might abandon your dream in the long run, simply because it was taking long to manifest.
This may seem easier said than done but, you have to stop comparing yourself, and your journey.
Most times, when you compare yourself, you only focus on your shortcomings instead of looking for ways improve or do better. Comparison should make you see where you can improve in your life, or while journeying to actualize your goals.
Your journey is valid. You will get to that point you’ve always wanted provided you are willing to put in the required work. But, don’t compare yourself if you would only continue beating yourself up. Your dreams are valid, and you will achieve all that you have always wanted.
